Star Trek Epic Event 2015

19 March 2015 thru 7 May 2015

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - @ @ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Special Note: Due to the network and connection issue that impacted the game for a major percentage of players on older iOS platforms the wizards behind TQfS have EXTENDED the Star Trek Event an extra WEEK! How cool is that?! Wicked cool that is how cool! Woot!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - @ @ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Welcome to the first event of its kind in for Quest for Stuff - its kind being a Special Event whose theme and story are attached to another IP that is well established in the hearts and minds of the player... Sweet right?

Specifically this is the Star Trek Epic Event 2015 - an event in which the worlds of Star Trek and the world of Family Guy collide with spectacular results!

This is, of course, not the first time that Star Trek and Family Guy have brushed in passing - but it is the first time that they have brushed in passing and then, grabbing each other and falling onto a conveniently placed pile of fresh-smelling and very clean hay, began to make out like a pair of love-starved teenagers from Iowa!

And speaking if Iowa, did you know that Captain Kirk is from there? Well he is! And so is Bill Bryson. Just saying...

The Official Description

Watch the worlds of Star Trek and Family Guy collide in the biggest Update we've ever done!

Play on the Enterprise, a whole new area to build and explore!

Engage in actions with your favorite Starfleet members, including Data, Worf, and more, all while embarking on deep space adventures and asteroid shooting. Pew Pew!

Interacting with the transporter to send your crew on missions across the galaxy? We got that!

Creating cool stuff with the replicator? We got that too!

Getting rid of hairy tribbles? Hell yeah, we've got that!

But danger looms around the corner. The Borg have recruited Bertram (yes, Bertram!) as their ew leader and are preparing to assimilate both Quahogians and those aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise!

Helpful Advice

Though each of the special events have similarities, in reality they are each unique in their own ways, and in particular in the basic strategy that the player must apply to succeed in mastery of the event without having to spend large amounts of real-world funds.

After carefully examining the dynamics of the Star Trek / Family Guy Cross-Over Event we have drawn some specific conclusions that you may find very helpful.

The first is that this event differs from those that came before it in one very significant way: you cannot rely upon the expansion area alone to acquire the resources that you need to complete the main story line missions because though the Starship Enterprise is indeed big, the system that is used to unlock its capacity is such that the event is practically over before it is fully engaged.

Because of that we strongly recommend that you take advantage of every opportunity to place Buildings that generate event resources in Quahog in addition to on board the Enterprise!

Put another way - the amount of resources that you will generate between the Buildings that will make up your Starfleet Campus in Quahog when they are combined with the amount obtained from the Starship are sufficient to permit you to Progress the main story line to its natural conclusion.

The second observation that we make is this: do NOT ignore the secondary resource sources. In a nutshell the secondary resource sources include Tribbles, Trekkies, and perhaps more significant than both of those, the rewards for the Tasks that each character that is part of the event can perform.

While the expansion compartments on board the Starship are significant sources for resources, just as the Buildings are below in Quahog, they are not guaranteed drops. The Tribbles and Trekkies - AND the tasks on the other hand have a much higher level of delivery thanks primarily to the relatively short timers for each.

What that means is that you will be able to collect from them more frequently than from the Buildings and compartments, which will result in higher gains from those sources.

With all of that in mind, we highly recommend that you try to play the game - and thus collect resources - at a faster rate than usual. Ideally you are logging into the game every two hours or so. Just saying.

In addition to the above strategies another aspect that should be emphasized is making use of any of the Characters who do NOT have a direct connection to the event. What we mean by that is simple - if a character is not able to generate resources for the event but they CAN generate resources either for one of the Quahog District Expansions OR just Coin and XP in general, it is a very good plan to keep them doing so as often as possible.

Remember that eventually you are going to need to pay for land expansion, Buildings, and new District content - and it would be a darn good notion to save up the war chest of Coin NOW so that you do not have to wait later!

Tribbles

Both on the streets of Quahog and in the passageways of the USS Enterprise a small furry pet that is known as Tribbles (and was first introduced in the original Star Trek TV show episode and story "The Trouble with Tribbles") appear as objects that can be tapped to collect a specific set of reward objects:

  • Dilithium Crystals (very common)

  • Tricorders (very rare)

  • Beard Trimmers (rare)

  • Captain's Log Entries (very rare)

Considering that the Tribbles are a free rewards scheme that potentially deliver highly desirable resources every effort should be made on the part of the player to tap and collect all of them that are encountered, wherever they are encountered, as often as possible.

Helpful Advice

There are several key points for you to bear in mind as you pursue the expansion opportunities for the Starship Enterprise, starting with the following critical points:

  1. Expansion Slots: There are only so many expansion slots available at any one time. While there are theoretically a sufficient number of Expansion Slots for each and every one of the ship Expansions tat any given time.

  2. Expansion Choices: As a general rule you will frequently have more expansion options than you do slots at any given time - and this is especially true in terms of the Premium Expansion Choices. As a result you want to be sure that you first serve the Expansion Rooms that are directly attached to or associated with your active missions.

  3. Premium Expansion Rooms: Pick carefully in terms of which (if any) of the Premium Expansion Rooms you opt to build based on what the room can do for you NOW and in the future.

It would be an idea to keep an eye out for the levels and resources required for any of these and to place any as soon as you may... Considering that this is hte primary upgrade path for the ship these are important!

Replicator Crafting

The Replicator Crafting Screen is the Crafts Scheme for the Star Trek Event - each of the major events and expansion events in the game usually include some sort of Crafts Scheme. For example for the Brewery District Expansion we have the Brewery Craft Scheme that makes use of the Brewery specific resources that can be collected via taps and tasks.

For the Star Trek Event the Replicator Crafts Scheme uses resources specific to the Star Trek theme that are also collected either via Taps or Tasks.

The following are what we know about Replicator Crafts so far... We will be updating this as more info is on offer!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The Crafts Objects List

The following list of objects may be crafted via the Replicator in combination with the listed resources that are required for each recipe...

The first step towards enabling the Replicator Crafts Scheme is to unlock the Engineering Bay.

The following crafts list appears in the order that it is presented in the Replicator Crafts System in the game:

Listing Key: LSE = Life Support Energy Unit / SO = Synthesizer Ore / TE = Transporter Energy / PE = Phaser Energy / DM = Dark Matter / DC = Dilithium Crystal.

  • Starfleet Statue (Cost = x5 LSE + 675DC)

  • Earl Grey's Hawt Tea (Cost = x5 LSE + 125DC)

  • Ferengi Mort Special Item Character Outfit (Cost = x10 LSE + x5 SO + 350DC)

  • Latinm Loans (Cost = x8 LSE + x3 SO + 200DC)

  • Klingon Temple (Cost = ??)

  • Klingon Symbol Statue (Cost = ??)

  • Romulan Ale Bar (Cost = ??)

  • Casket Ejector 5000 (Cost = ??)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The Replicator Crafts Scheme uses the following collectible resources in addition to any money or XP requirements:

  • Life Support Energy

  • Synthesizer Ore

  • Transporter Energy

  • Phaser Energy

  • Dark Matter

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In addition to the above crafts resources the following additional resources are present as part of the resource collections scheme:

  • Beard Trimmers (Bonnie, Lois & Quagmire Tasks)

  • Captain's Log Entries (Tribbles & Peter Task)

  • Children's Books (Herbert Task & Cargo Bay Tap)

Compartment Expansion

The Starship USS Enterprise is naturally divided into a large selection of strategically important and significant compartments, most of which are completely useless to us and so the wizards who have created the game did not bother to include them in the floor plan.

The ones that they DID include on the other hand ARE important! So important that we should have a plan - or at least some notion - of the order in which we will unlock them and why...

So here are the Compartments for the Starship Enterprise - with their details and the benefits that each offers us in game play and strategy!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Suggested Build Path

One of the best parts of the game genre we know as the Freemium Grinder is that you can pretty much play and expand your game at your own pace, and in your own way in terms of builds. That said though, if you are following the strategy we employ for the guide, there are certain aberrations that will appear.

For instance while we are trying not to spend lots of Premium Currency we know that a LOT of players do not have that concern - so with that in mind and just for this part we are going to proceed as if it was not a concern.

There are a total of 17 assignable spaces or compartments on the deck of the Starship Enterprise which means that you can eventually have 17 different builds available at any one time. Note that you CAN swap out builds.

What that means is that if you no longer have any available compartments and you tap on one that is already occupied the game gives you the option to move the existing purpose compartment into storage and replace it with whatever you want to build now.

While there are in fact a total of 17 available compartments for building, there are twenty-two (22) unique builds - which naturally means that you are never going to have even one of each in place at any one time because of that.

Also bear in mind that some of the builds are way more valuable to you than others - for example in addition to generating the normal SXP and DC the Crews Quarters ALSO generates Life Support Energy which in the early stages of the event is highly prized and useful!

With that in mind you may want to configure all of the available spaces for use by builds that have the potential to generate different energy sources in order to speed along the process of gaining leverage in the story. Just sayng...

The following expansion builds are how we might do it - if we were doing it that way!

Compartment Cost & Returns Quantity Got?...
Crew's Quarters 325 DC / DC + SXP + LSE 02 01
Rec Room 425 DC / DC + SXP + TE 01 01
Red Shirt Doom Room 125C / DC + SXP + TE ?? 00
McBurgertown Outpost 150C / DC + SXP + LSE ?? 00
The Space Crapper 475 DC / DC + SXP + Picture Frame ?? 00
Wardrobe Services 500 DC / DC + SXP + Visor ?? 00
Cybernetics Lab 400C / DC + SXP + 200 DC ?? 00
Cargo Bay 250 DC / DC + SXP + Resources 01 01
Super Rad Cargo Bay 400 DC / DC + SXP + SO 01 01
Fuzzball Bay 200C / DC + SXP + Tribbles 01 01
Robotics Lab 175 DC / DC + SXP + Red Shirts 01 01
Weapon's Locker ??? / DC + SXP + PE ?? 00
Observation Deck ??? / DC + SXP + PE ?? 00
Riker's Quarters ??? / DC + SXP + Resources ?? 00
Assimilation Room ??? / DC + SXP + Borg ?? 00
Racquetball Court ??? / DC + SXP + TE ?? 00
Decompression Chamber ??? / ??? + ??? ?? 00
Genetics Lab ??? / ??? + ??? ?? 00
Media Lab ??? / ??? + ??? ?? 00
Sonic Shower ??? / ??? + ??? ?? 00
Trophy Room ??? / ??? + ??? ?? 00
The Brig ??? / ??? + ??? ?? 00

While the end game for this expansion will require a specific set of builds early on your focus should be on generating the very critical Life Support Energy resources that are required to unlock the major ships areas. Just saying;;;

Phaser Battle MG

This Mini-Guide is intended to instruct you in the fine art of Phaser Battles. That is to say that it will teach you pretty much everything you need to know and then some about manning the Weapon's Console on the Bridge of the USS Enterprise.

Specifically that means operating the weapons array that is part of the Enterprise NCC-1701-D -- a Galaxy-class armed vessel that happens to be the fifth Federation starship to carry the name Enterprise.

Enterprise is part of the Galaxy-class, named for the first starship in that generation, the USS Galaxy (NX-70637 later NCC-70637) which was a formidable and very capable ship with combat ribbons for the Battle for Deep Space 9, the First Battle of Chin'toka, and the Battle of Cardassia.

To best appreciate the history of this proud ship, its lineage is:

  1. HMS Enterprise (1705 - 1707 formerly L'Enterprise), a 6th Rate Frigate of 320 Tons / 24 Guns

  2. HMS Enterprise (1709 - 1740) a 5th Rate Frigate of 320 Tons / 44 Guns

  3. HMS Enterprise (1743 - 1744) a Sloop of 8 Guns

  4. HMS Enterprise (1744 - 1770) a 5th Rate Frigate of 618 Tons / 44 Guns

  5. HMS Enterprise (1774 - 1806) a 6th Rate Frigate of 593 Tons / 28 Guns

  6. USS Enterprise (1775 - 1777) Sloop of 70 Tons / 12 Guns

  7. USS Enterprise (1776 - 1777) Schooner of 25 Tons / 8 Guns

  8. USS Enterprise (1799 - 1823) Schooner of 165 Tons / 12 Guns

  9. HMS Enterprise (1806 - 1816 formerly HMS Resource) a 6th Rate Frigate of 593 Tons / 28 Guns

  10. EIC Enterprise (1824 - 1830) a Paddle Steamer Gunboat of 660 Tons / 8 Guns

  11. USS Enterprise (1831 - 1844) Schooner of 194 Tons / 10 Guns

  12. HMS Enterprise (1848 - 1860) an Arctic Survey Vessel of 471 Tons / 12 Guns

  13. HMS Enterprise (1864 - 1871) a 6th Rate Sloop of 1,350 Tons / 8 Guns

  14. USS Enterprise SP-790 (1917 - 1919) Schooner of 1 Tons / 1 Guns

  15. HMS Enterprise (1926 - 1946) a Light Cruiser of 7,580 Tons / 26 Guns

  16. USS Enterprise CV-6 (1938 - 1947) Aircraft Carrier of 19,800 Tons / 94 Guns + 90 Aircraft

Notes:

"d" = Decommissioned

"r" = Refit / Class Changed

"w" = Destroyed

Phasers Enabled

While the Phaser Arrays are obviously there, they are not accessible or useable until you have advanced the Warp Core Level to Warp 3, at which point power is finally available to activate and use the Phaser Arrays!

This capability is unlocked during the Mission Series "A Ship Without Picard" when you also unlock the Bridge (which sort of makes sense considering that the Weapons Console is ON the Bridge!).

Phaser How-To

First you need to save up some Phaser Energy - you CAN purchase it also using real-world funds but we do not suggest you do that since it is very expensive...

Once you have a sufficient amount - say more than 12 or so? You can then activate the Phaser Console, which will change the PoV to the Phaser Aiming System, at which point you will see various objects floating past like Asteroids, Borg Cubes, and PeterCraft (2 types).

In addition to those three targets there are also Birds of Prey that de-cloak in a stationary pattern every so many seconds.

Each of these four targets offers a different potential pay-off - so you want to pick your targets carefully. Also bear in mind that each of the targets has a different damage requirement in order to destroy them and thus collect their bounty.

Each shot you take uses up one (1) Phaser Energy. So obviously the more Phaser Energy you have in your Phaser Bank the better!

The following should make that clearer for you:

Target Shots to Destroy Rewards
Asteroid Type 1 1 x1 SXP and x5 Dilithium -or- x1 Synthesizer Ore
Asteroid Type 2 1 x1 SXP and x1 Dilithium
Asteroid Type 3 1 x2 SXP and x2 Dilithium
Asteroid Type 4 1 x2 SXP and x2 Dilithium -or- x2 Synthesizer Ore
PeterCraft (Regular) 1 x2 SXP and x1 Felcium -or- x1 Laser Pointer -or -x2 SXP + x10 Dilithium
PeterCraft (Armored) 2 x4 SXP + x5 Dilithium and x1 Laser Pointer and always x1 Space Condom
Borg Cube 3 Depends on what Characters you are unlocking
Bird of Prey 1 Depends on what Characters you are unlocking

Obtaining Phaser Energy

Getting Phaser Energy - if you do not want or mean to pay for it with Clams / Real-World Funds - is as simple as having your Characters do specific tasks...

  • Geordi: Regain Focus, CHANCE every 6hrs

  • Guinan: Fire Her Gun, CHANCE every 6hrs

  • Klingon Chris: Pick Nose Asteroids, CHANCE every 6hrs

  • Starfleet Lois: Spy on Ryker, CHANCE every 6hrs

  • Troi: Work as a Translator, CHANCE every 6 hrs

There is also a chance to obtain Phaser Energy from specific Buildings (if you have them):

  • Observation Deck: ALWAYS Pays out 1 every 6hrs

  • Starfleet Academy: ALWAYS Pays Out 1 every 6hrs

  • Weapons Locker: CHANCE Pay out every 4hrs

You can also obtain them from the following Away Missions:

    Nom-Nomulous: CHANCE 3 Phaser Energy 4hrs

That sums up the Phaser Battle System...

Missions and Quests

Naturally this Special Event that mixes the Star Trek and Family Guy IPs features Missions and Quests as well as a long list of unique Tasks... That should not have been all that big a surprise really!

FYI: For the Tasks, Missions and the Quests that take place on the Enterprise (or that are part of the Star Trek Event) the payment of awards is made in Dilithium Crystals (noted as Crystals) and Starfleet Experience Points (Noted as SXP).

Bear in mind that anything you can do to pick up extra Starfleet Experience Points (SXP) is a really very good move on your part, because Progress for this event and expansion content is largely slaved to the SXP you earn.

If you examine the Event Status Box on the lower right-hand portion of the game play screen you will note that at all times during the event both your current standing for Starfleet Level as well as what Progress you have made towards the next level are clearly indicated by the number inside the Starfleet Shield and the meter bar below it.

Unlocking The Bridge

The next major step in securing the Enterprise and making it your own is to unlock the Bridge - which in addition to being where the command crew stations are located also happens to be where Captain Picard - in his guise as Locutus of Borg - is located and unlocked.

So to sum this up, first you need to save up a total of x25 LSE (Life Support Energy) and then you need to spend that 25 LSE on unlocking the Bridge. Unlocking the Bridge is an INSTANT Task so once you have the LSE it's just a tap to complete.

Unlocking the Bridge then Unlocks Locutus of Borg - which then requires you to complete a resource collection in order to fully add him to your crew and town.

Vulcan Embarrassment

First thing first - wow! Well done on unlocking Vulcan Quagmire! And if you managed to do that without spending any Clams, a serious and amazed well done! We did it without Clams but we have to admit in the interest of transparency that we would NOT have managed this if they had not extended the event.

Bottom line? Glen's Star Trek Outfit was one of the ones that the community was loudly and vigorously complaining about when they said you had to spend Clams --- too many Clams -- to complete much of this event! It was the book of course that was the source of the problem, but as we say, in the end thanks to the extension it all worked out!

The Road to Recovery

Being Borg is pretty much equated to a sickness along the order of a mild cold in the world of Star Trek, so hey, your captain has been borged? Take him to Sick Bay!

WARNING: Depending on the order in which you unlock various Characters that are part of this Mission series you CAN end up flagging the missions out of order. That does NOT mean you cannot do them, it just means that using the guide might mean jumping around a bit...

The important thing to understand and grok is that even if/when this happens, the game is still working as it was intended. It is not broken IOW.

The Return of Picard

History tells us that Jean-Luc Picard was in fact assimilated into the Borg Collective. And we know based on the Captain's Logs that followed, he WAS rescued from that fate worse than being an Apple TV< and eventually returned to full duty as a Starship Captain for Starfleet... So this should be a snap, right?

Open Communication

Quagmire Invites Uhura to Pary!

Get Uhura

This Mission awards you 15 DC and 2 SXP and Lt. Uhura...

Note: This Craft Menu Option requires a MASSIVE x75 Dark Matter (as well as x50 Life Support Energy) so the chances of you obtaining this without spending a massive amount of real-world funds is pretty much Slim-to-None. In fact I would go so far as to say that any one you know who actually has unlocked Uhura did it by paying for the privelege...

We are not saying that is a bad thing, but considering the strategic approach we have taken towards game play and the measure of success as well as the goal-oriented intention of spending as little real-world funds as possible, well, that pretty much guarantees we will NOT be unlocking the good El-Tee.

** Premium Missions **

These are limited time only Premium Missions - a common option for practically every major event in the game. Basically what this is in a nutshell is a gesture by TinyCo to get you (the player) to spend a bit more real-world money and thus help increase the revenue stream for a game that, let us be very honest here, gets a LOT of good things for a Freemium Grinder type game.

That being so, IF you can afford to spend the real-world funds on something like this, and IF you are not playing the game (as we are) with the goal to spend as little in terms of real-world funds as you can manage, why then these are not really bad deals if you think about it. Just saying...

Cleaning is Futile

This Mission should really be renamed "If If Iffy-If" for some pretty obvious reasons that begin with the fact that it cannot get started without you (a) having purchased the Premium Gal who comes to us in the form of Consuela - Professional Home Cleanliness Engineer and all-around cool Abuela!

OK seriously for a moment - very early on in your game play Consuela was offered to you - or rather YOU were offered the chance to purchase her as what was likely your very first Premium Character acquisition. She costs a massive 300 Clams - but for that big pile of Clams you also get her house such as it is, so hey, character AND house - bonus!

After you spend the 300C you have to put some effort into leveling her, but on the plus side of that equation, the Big-C comes with her own set of missions and has largely been included in a lot of the events and expansions as well, so at least in her case, not a bad investment after all!

The Big-C has more than a few pretty spiffy one-liners and has been given interesting things to say and do for most of the major expansions and events. SO in terms of interactiveness and compared to other PCs she delivers value for the Clams you have to spend to get her.

Star Trek Cross-Over and the Big-C: Unfortunately the process of actually obtaining Borg-C (unless you are really wicked lucky) requires you to spend yet another pile of Clams on the special box her suit is in. Though once you DO obtain her it is all good. So we are going to assume that (a) You bought her as a PC early on; (b) You have leveled her at or near the Cap; and (c) You were wicked lucky and obtained her Borg Costume without bleeding too much.

Read on!

The End?

As the Epic Star Trek Cross-Over Event winds down and wraps up you are doubtlessly going to notice that there are a bunch of missions we covered you did not finish, and some of them you did not even get to flag. Not only that but you may discover that there are missions WE never had the chance to finish or flag.

The reason for that is a simple one - this expansion was not created to be completed without spending large amounts of real-world funds. That is as blunt as we can be about the matter.

We took it as far and farther spending no money as it could be taken, and all of that is documented above. We DID spend some Clams on Characters - and we took the Premium Side as far as it could reasonably be taken.

The point to this is, if you managed to get as far as we managed to get, you did very very well for yourself playing without spending piles of money and well done you!

Despite the fact that this expansion was clearly created to promote the players spending money, all in all even without doing that it was a lot of fun and it added a lot to our Quahog. Though truth be told we are very ready to have the wizards focus on expansion land and new chapters!
