Top 10 TV Shows that Should be Made into a Major Game
3. Rick and Morty
Once every generation, a show comes along that is so great, so instantly likable, that it only needs one season to be made into an icon. Firefly, once more, comes to mind, but Rick and Morty might outshine that effort, from way out of left field nonetheless.
Taking cues from pop culture and spinning it into an absurdity, this cartoon manages to have an original presence in the sci-fi adventure genre, while teetering between obscene and hilarious. It's a fine line and it may take getting used to, but it's definitely the strong point of this universe. Rick is an aging scientist, whose bitterness of the world is only outdone by the substance abuse and worrying mental instability paired with utter genius. Rick's smarts allow for inter-dimensional travels, where aliens and other perilous events await. Therefore, grandson Morty gets enlisted as a patsy. The child isn't too bright and can generally be pushed around, though that also leads to awkward situations in hostile dimensions. Everyone wants a piece of Morty. Take Back to the Future's dynamic, but in a twisted nightmare that only something like Videodrome could produce, and you'd get Rick and Morty.
A game could be a pretty straightforward affair: a side-scrolling brawler or shooter that throws the duo into known locations with equally recognizable enemies. It could channel some of the craziness from Castle Crashers and similar titles, to ensure the humor is on point. Source material being handled properly would be of vital importance. That fine line between distasteful and comedy gold is what brings people to this world.
Still, gameplay can't be a slog either. Pacing should be mostly elevated, to represent the chaos the two get into. Special attacks could cascade the screen in Meeseeks clones that trample foes or characters could get juiced up and “go DMX' on fools. Worlds would hurl players through inner-body rollercoasters, featuring boss fights with Hepatitis diseases. Even load screens could get self-referential, to mimic self-aware promos run for the show. As long as this game keeps firing on all cylinders, it should have the audience shout “Wub-a-lub-a-dub-dub!'
"officers are shown as greedy, power hungry brutes, while those involved in illegal activities have more human qualities"
Love that you included The Wire but I would have to disagree with this. Both sides are even-handedly presented.
yes breaking bad . I would buy
Love all the games but when are you going to get knews does are already old for me and my kids...
Where is Firefly? I'm sorry but this list is way too limited in scope and I don't see how it could be labeled as a Top 10. Breaking Bad, Boardwalk, and I guess American Horror Story, but AHS shouldn't count b/c you could just do anything and label it "American Horror Story" since every season is a completely different story.
SOA
Where is Magnum PI?
I gotta say a lot of these are just dumb. Orange is the new black, really? Good show dumb game even as a knock off prison sim. I'm not British but the british guys in here are right. Where's misfits or Luther. Even Inbetweeners could be a good game. I would buy Rick and Morty tho no matter what kinda game it is.
American TV is LOL NO
Really now, no British shows? Why did you pick 10 shows all from the states and about people who live there? Their shows are fine, but kind of overrated at this point.
Not breaking Bad. That has a pretty poignant and structured narrative. Its more of a character study than anything else anyway.
